The Dante Club Bocciofila is a committee of the Dante Club. Their task is to promote
the game of bocce within the Italo-Canadian community in the Sarnia / Lambton area.
They manage the Bocciodromo Complex.
Originally Bocciofila began playing bocce on outdoor courts packed with fine sand.
As the game became more popular it was decided to build a complex that would make
it possible to enjoy the sport year round.
In 1994 a bocce complex (Bocciodromo) of about 10,000 square feet, with 10 legal
size playing courts was built.
his was made possible by the hard work of the members who volunteered their labour
and sought donations of building materials from local suppliers.
Sponsors displaying their signs throughout the complex were also secured to help
with the operating costs.
This building is the first of this size in South Western Ontario.
Bocciofila plays in the Southwestern Ontario Bocce League and participate in scheduled
tournaments with neighboring communities such as Windsor, Leamington, London and
Detroit.
Every year, the Dante Club Bocciofila is involved in the Canada Day festivities.
They run the Italian booth and serve Italian specialties, such as pasta, sausages,
pizza, etc.
Everyone is welcome to our complex, but be warned that once you try this game you
are hooked. For more information, please call the Dante Club Bocciofila at 519-542-8578
and ask for Luigi Torti or Frank D'Agostini.
